Thursday the 8th...already..wow!! Jayson will be gelded today. I have to contact a hauler for Nariko. Cheryl and I spent yesterday running  around getting items done for the breakfast. Will get the poster up online this afternoon...out the door early...more later~lynn

April 7th...Wednesday..its a sunny morning and Este is taking avantage of the sunshine! He changes everyday...of course only getting cuter!

There is always much to do here. Mucking the stalls is a daily, along with water and feeding. We can use help if you are interested!

Uncle Patriot, who was resuced off the Nevada feedlot was checking in on Gem and baby. He is looking ultra handsome as he continues to thrive in the care of Laurie! Said to Este to be sure and soak up the sun...and drink lots of milk!

And so the work continues, we are hosting the snack shack at the SCCHA.This will bring lots of revenue for the horses. We will have our poster for "Breakfast with the Babies!" by tomorrow!~~Stay Tuned!

Tueday April 6th.

A huge thank you to James and his brother Sean for their help yesterday. Hay is very heavy and not easy to move. These gentlemen made light of the difficult work. One is a future firefighter and the other is gonna play football. Look out girls! Hearts are gonna break.

James and Sean are at the rescue all the time mucking, feeding and helping me out! Thank You!

Heres our little man trying out his new legs! Cute cute ..more coming this afternoon..time to muck, water, supps, go to bank...oh yes..those groceries..Busy busy....

More Monday News...

I have to share, I sat in the stall last night and listened to the sounds. The sounds of his first day.The rain tinked on the metal roof. Mom crunched happily as she kept a close eye. Ballet paced and sighed from the other side of the wall. All was well. I held a little flashlight in my lap and it spilled a warm glow over this little piece of solitude. Is there anything more magical than a new baby? He took a few steps and plopped down between mommy and me. As he flunk his head back it landed on my lap. He promptly closed his eyes and dozed off. What a gift. :)

Ok moving on..

Dr. Phinn came out and was very excited!! Said the mare and foal looked really really good. The foal was completely perfect, no heart murmurs, lungs clear, meconium passed, umbilical dipped, mucus membranes pink and moist...nursing well...oh yes he is! Mom's weight looks good, heart rate normal, no increase in digital pulses...and on and on... Thank you to Mike Hayward, my farrier who has given Gem his utmost care and attention. With her damaged leg, he helped her carry the weight of this unborn foal, and helped prevent her from foundering or any other disasterous occurances.

Ballet received her vaccinations, and is now ready for her expected delivery in the month of April. This is a very good time to mark your calendars for our "Breakfast with the Babies!" Scheduled for June 19th, Saturday in Corralitos

Cheryl came by this am..she was working all day yesterday and couldn't get over to see our boy. By the time she got off work, the rain was coming down. So she waited until this am. Took more pics that will be posted later this afternoon.

Everyone is very excited to meet our boy, so I ask that you please call before just coming over. I had people here at 8 am and was still in my jammies. This is my home and so a phone call is very important before just heading over. Many thanks...lots of love. I think my sister is coming out tomorrow  :).... More soon  Lynn

Easter proved to be one of the best days ever!  Our weekend at PMR has been the best weekend in a long time.  Easter Sunday brought us the most beautiful, healthy colt!  What a great mom Gem is.  Absolutely no fuss from her at all.  Saturday brought lots of visitors, everyone stopped by to say hello to our two pregnant mares.  Gem took it all in stride and was sweet as could be.  Who knew by Sunday morning she would give us the greatest Easter surprise.  Not one of us had a clue.  I checked on her at 2am and she was fine.  Resting comfortably.  Early Sunday morning I checked on them again, and there he was.  Gem had tricked us all.  Little man will be officially named today.  If you entered the raffle stay tuned.  I can't thank everyone enough for all their help and support.  Without your donations we cannot continue to do this. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Here we are Sunday morning.

If you would like to friend me on Facebook you can see his video.  Have a fantastic Monday.  Dr Phinn will be here soon to give mom and Little Man a good checking over.
If you would like to visit please call ahead of time.  Ballet is now showing signs of discomfort, but heck Gem did that to us for weeks.

Oh my..all the stress becomes so worth it.

I was drug..dragged ...drug...out of the stall by my husband...oh yes it's Easter....We are at my parents having dinner. Thanks go out to Katy, Marla, Candace, Sean, James, Spencer, Betty..I cant find Betty's number...oh geez...Betty!! wheres your number?????everyone who has been jumping thru hoops for this mom and little colt.

Happy Easter!  Hoping all the children get to hunt for lots of eggs.

I am going to post this blog Saturday evening since I have so much to do tomorrow.  Sorry if you are really confused.

What a whirlwind Saturday was.  I woke up really early to try to squeeze everything in today.

First off breakfast for all our horses, fresh water, and mucked bedding.  It seems our pregnant mares Ballet and Gem enjoy a good housecleaning.  As soon as they were finished with breakfast it was time to take the weight off their feet for a while.

Both our mares were up and down quite a bit.  No babies yet, but we are ready for them.

Sandy came and donated a computer which is much needed.  Thanks Sandy and Jillian.  Then they went over to visit Zoe.

Shannon came to meet Nariko and has officially filled out her paperwork.  Hooray, Nariko has a new adopter.  Reference checks pending but we do not forsee any problems at all.  She is scheduled to leave for her new home next week.

More later.

Friday brought huge amounts of rain.  Once again we have our own duck ponds.

Thank you James and Shawn who came over to muck and feed early Friday morning.

A special mention to Lisa Van D  who donates every month.  Her old kitty is not feeling so good so a special jingles and prayers for him.

I received a wonderful update on Kio today.  Bianca has done the most amazing job with him.  She told me he floats on air when she rides him.  Bianca also does Bio scanning for a living.  I will let you know tomorrow all about Bio scanning.  It is an amazing thing.

Sorry the pictures are a little small, I think they were taken with a cell phone.

Sandy B comes to visit today, we are so excited to see her again.  She has donated a laptop for us to use.  Thank you so much.  See you soon.

Shannon comes today to see Nariko.  We are hoping it is a match made in heaven and Nariko will have a new awesome home.  Hopefully Shannon can see her beauty through the mud.  Nariko loves to get dirty and made the most of it today.  Ugh!!

Jayce has an appointment to change his status from colt to gelding on Thursday if the weather is dry.  Carlos has worked so hard with him.

Angel, who was finally cleaned up saw Nariko and joined in the fun.

Hay delivery was canceled due to the weather so I went and crammed as much hay into the van as we could fit.  Not much but the delivery is rescheduled for Monday.
Does anyone know of a better price than 23.95 each for Farnum Mare and Foal supps?  If so, can you send me the link.  I have finally gone through the whole case and need another one.  Could always use more Rice Bran, the horses love their supps.

If you ever need a wonderful person to haul your horse Bonnie Stoehn is your lady.  A wonderful horse whisperer too.  Give her a call, she is sure to help you. 831 457 2400. Bonnie has hauled many of our rescues and does it without a problem every time!

Gem and Ballet are doing well...still no foals, but eating us out of house and home :)

The weather Thursday was freezing to say the least.  No amount of coffee warmed us.

Naughty Nevada broke the water pipe at the foster pasture so Scott headed over to fix it.  A huge thanks to Tom for paying for that. We appreciate you and everything you do for the horses.  I love the updates on what the horses have done today.  Sorry about the pipe though.

A huge thanks to Amy who came over and mucked, watered and fed Thursday.

My toe is healing nicely and I am finally able to move around a little better.

Naughty Nariko's potential adopter comes out this weekend.  Exciting for all of us.  She has the most beautiful coloring.  Jet black when shed out with a grey white mane and tail.

Not much more to report today.  The pregnant mares are still baking their foals.  Jayce is still in training with Carlos and they are enjoying themselves immensely.

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

Great news..we won the Lottery~! OK, it's April Fools Day...I wish we had though.  What we could do with the money.  A fabulous new facility with enough room for every unwanted horse no matter what their problem may be.

Hobbling around today I realized just how lucky I am to have such great friends.  Friends who no matter what are committed to their horses for life.  They would rather do without in order to make sure that a horse that they have previously owned will have a home no matter what and not face that uncertain auction or slaughterhouse.  That is a true human being.

I just got word that it is snowing on HW 17 and the drive is treacherous, please take extra care.  Our pregnant mares are tucked in for the night. I hope they wait to foal until the weather gets better.

Thanks to Katy who has bought us a 100 gallon water trough for the lower pasture.  It will arrive Friday.

Thanks to Cheryl for picking up Rice Bran.  We appreciate it. Thanks for designing posters and tickets too.

Thanks again to Betty and Janet for all their hard work for Breakfast with the Babies. Vendors are starting to respond and they are saying they will attend.

Thanks to Laurie D at www.bluehorsedesign.net who has fabulous new soaps for sale.  Check out the "Talk to the Tail" soaps, they are so cute.  A portion of all orders will be donated to PMR.

Thanks to Jill who is trying to learn how to drive the tractor.

Who knows, maybe she will be able to move the sand out of the driveway.
Freezing and off to make coffee.  More tomorrow.

Happy Cesar Chavez Day

The final day of March and so we have Easter this weekend.  The little ones are going to have a great time hunting for eggs.

Congratulations to Sherry B. and Mike F.  who get married this weekend.

A huge thanks goes to Cheryl S.  and her sons who work tirelessly here, mucking, feeding, watering etc.

A huge thanks to Miss M who no matter what happens if I need help feeding she will help.

A huge thanks to the Dr who wasn't too grossed out about my toe.

A huge thanks to Katy who pointed out that if I didn't have slippers on while handling horses none of this would have happened.

Still no babies, so I have turned Gem out for a good romp in the pasture.  Ballet prefers to not get dirty so she just tip toes around.

Angel is doing well and Cheryl once again has taken her under her wing.  They are working on some ground training issues.  Angel is a quick learner and loves Cheryl.

Betty as always is busy behind the scenes putting together "Breakfast with the Babies" which is now becoming a joke around here.  She is soooo organized I don't know what I would do without her.

A good friend from the past will come to visit on Saturday.  I am so excited to see her again, and she will be bringing a spare laptop with her.  Thank you!  What did we ever do without computers before?  Senior moment because I can't remember!

Looking forward to Scott being back in town and Katy nagging him into helping with poop removal etc.

More rain forecast...darn it!  Rain sheets on, rain sheets off, patio furniture out, patio furniture in!!  Summer where are you?

More tomorrow

Tuesday March 30Th

Is it really the end of March? Already?

I had the pleasure of spending most the day yesterday in the emergency room. Gem had stepped on my toe. My little toe was hanging off, bone sticking out. It was lovely.  3 x-rays later.....no fracture. They put the toe back together and home I went-a-hobbling. Thank God for my son. He was there for me. Waited patiently for hours. Those things never go quickly. So..if you'd like to come and muck this week..I sure could use the help. If you'd like to come and feed early or late, I could use you. Mucking, watering and feeding never go away :)

Tidbits****Looks like Nariko meets her new mom this weekend.

We are all working hard for the upcoming breakfast. If you know of a business,.....  maybe yours!...that would like to advertise in our brochure we are creating for the silent auction items, please send them my way. Email me at pmrhorses@pregnantmarerescue.com  .The ad spaces sell for $50.00 and $100.00. Its a great way to advertise and help the horses.

Still no baby yet......she must know rains a'coming!~~Lynn

Monday, March 29th, 2010

It's already getting close to the end of March.  The months are flying by.

I am receiving calls daily of horses that need homes.  If you would like a riding horse give me a call or send me an email and I can give you names and phone numbers.  We have horses here too but most of them are not under saddle or are pregnant.

I want to thank Hannah E.  who is in 7th grade in Los Gatos.  Hannah worked so hard, mucking stalls, scrubbing troughs, tidying up, and giving each one of the horses one on one attention.

I seriously need to find someone to move the sand in the driveway.  It has become the local resting place.

Gem enjoyed a good roll today, too bad she can't get all the way over.  She seems to have put the foal on hold for a while.

Rain forecast for tonight, so time to go and check on things, muck early and put everything away.  3 more days of rain to follow.....
More tomorrow
Lynn and all our wonderful volunteers at PMR.  Without you none of this would be possible.

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

One week to Easter.  If you are a Farmville fan keep sending those Spring eggs. Unfortunately I have enough farming to do around the ranch, but I know plenty of my friends are addicted.

I need a volunteer to put the wire up in the lower pasture and we still have not got the fence painted.  Also need someone to move the sand.  Scott is out of town for a week so we won't be seeing him for a while.

Still no foals...waiting, waiting, waiting, finger tapping.......

Nariko's potential adopter is very excited and so are we.  She will come Easter weekend.

The horses are shedding like crazy, if you enjoy grooming please come out to help...I would appreciate it and so would the horses.

3rd meeting for the Breakfast with the Babies was a huge success, we meet again in two weeks.

Vendors and donations of items are coming in so it should be a great day.

Time to prep for rain, we are looking at showers for 4 days straight...time to break out the rain sheets if it gets cold enough. Hopefully it will blow over.

More tomorrow

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

Wow, sorry we haven't kept you updated in a few days.  Once again, major problems with the ranch computer and I haven't been able to successfully send any photos to our volunteers who help re size photos.  We are lost without our computer.  A friend is actually cutting and pasting this for me.

So what has been happening the last few days...

No babies yet...Gem has faked us out so many times, that I have decided I will probably just wake up one day to an extra set of cuteness.  Ballet, our Prima Donna will probably make a huge scene about it.  We love them dearly and they will foal when they are ready I suppose.  Spring is all around us.  On Larkin Valley alone we have numerous baby goats, lambs, foals, chicks, so our time will come.

3rd meeting for "Breakfast with the Babies" and thank goodness we chose June 19th...if we don't have any foals by then, maybe I can rent some.

Awesome news, Narico has a potential adopter, who is extremely knowledgeable about horses and Mustangs in particular...fingers crossed our "Rip your pocket off" filly has found her perfect match.

Not much more happening at the moment but we are thankful for every day we get with these wonderful creatures.

Happy 5th Birthday to Spencer who is a horse lover and who has his very own pony. Oh, and I better mention he is number 1 when it comes to mucking and chatting.

Update on Zoe...she had to have 6 baby teeth pulled today and she had a very rare lower wolf tooth removed also.  Her vet was very excited about it and swears it is very lucky.  She promises pictures and an explanation soon.

Update on Bruiser..He's a handful and worth every minute Jenelle spends with him.

Update on Shila...She has proven she was a diamond in the rough and is doing well now that Laurie can spend every spare moment with her.

Update on Sassy...Her forelock is almost down to her nostrils, she is as Sassy as can be, but has saddled and bridled easily.  Sassy loves carrots and does not like to be told what to do.

Update on Rasta..She is amazing, it took her so long to trust and Joann thinks she has finally made a connection with her.  More to follow on this one in a few days.

Update on Kate...Sadly Kate passed away.  She was humanely euth'd after a horrible bout with colic.  Rest in peace sweet girl..You were loved to the end.

So onward and forward and off to muck stalls, clean water buckets, muck pastures and then the meeting.  If you would like to join us give me a call. 408 540 8568

More tomorrow...computer permitting

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Another beautiful day in the neighborhood.  70 degrees and blue skies.  What could make this day bad at all...well I will tell you.  Someone just told me we are in for 4 days of rain next week.  I can't believe it.

Either Gem needs to foal this week or I pray she holds off for another week.  Maybe an Easter baby?

Ballet is quite content to be pampered and is enjoying her food immensely.  She would put the "All You Can Eat Buffet" out of business in no time.

OK, jokes aside and this one is NOT my fault at all.  I sent a bunch of photos to Katy today and she deleted every single one!  Accident of course but my computer will not re size them so unless you want poster size photos trying to download on your computer you will have to wait one more day.  I just got Katy's email and it is 2 am, so no way she can redo them now.

I promise the minute one of our mares foals you will be the first to know.

Potential adopters coming out this week if the weather holds.

Angel has settled in well and we are hoping to find her a great home.  She has the most beautiful ground manners and is "an in your pocket" kind of horse.

Narico is a sweet girl but is more "rip your pocket off" kind of horse.  She loves her treats.

We are trying to put an album together with updated photos of all our rescues so please keep sending those pictures.  People would love to see how well they have turned out.

Thanks to Cheryl and Betty for all their hard work with Breakfast with the Babies and to everyone who has volunteered their time for that day.  June 19th.

More later

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

Another beautiful day and hopefully Spring is here to stay.  No more blankets on blankets off.  Horses shedding like crazy.

The mares get bigger by the day.  Gem is now officially sunken in the hind end and things are softening.  Baby has moved further back and Gem is taking it all in stride.  She has to be one of the sweetest mares we have ever had here.

A couple of adoption applications came in today, so we hope to make an appointment with potential adopters this week.  If we do not have a suitable horse for them, we also have a list of horses seeking new homes and we will try to match them up.

They hay arrived today and as usual I didn't have my camera handy.

The "Breakfast with the Babies" committee is working hard to make our fundraiser a huge success.  June 19th, 8am til 2pm, mark your calendars.  Pancake breakfast with fruit, coffee, juice, you name it we will have it.  Silent auction items, vendors, horses with foals, plenty of flat ground parking and a beautiful park setting at the Corralitos Grange. We hope you will come out and enjoy the day.  Tickets are $8.00 for adults, and $5.00 for children 12 and under.

We are looking for someone to feed one night a week, if you are available give me a call at 408 540 8568.  It only takes about 20 minutes and that includes filling waters too.

More tomorrow with pictures.
Lynn

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

The weekend flew by.  Just never enough hours in the day.  The Breakfast with the Babies meeting was productive.  We will have a list of volunteer jobs later this week, so if you see something you would like to sign up for please contact me.

Still no foals......but the mares seem happy and so we wait, and wait, and wait.

Cheryl has been coming to give Angel one on one time.  Thanks Cheryl.

Carlos has been visiting Jayce everyday and pampers him.

Narico is now best friends with Dually and enjoys playing all the time.

Thanks to Scott who came and moved the manure pile once again.

Thanks to Robert and Matt who got the gravel moved and who will be putting the sand down this week.

Off to get mats today and more supplies.  Hay will be delivered.

More tomorrow

TGIF....

Off we went bright and early to pick up Angel.  I was excited and saddened that Angel would be coming back today. Angel was  at PMR with 4 foals who Angel had adopted and nursed when their mothers were shipped to slaughter.  She was a wonderful mother and a beautiful mare.  We are happy to welcome back Angel into the fold at PMR.  I took pictures and none of them came out too well.  So I'll try again today after her beauty treatment.  It seems someone has chewed out her mane and tail, so we will bath her, pull the rest of her mane and dewinterize her. (Shed her out a little)  Angel loaded well, and trailered like a champ.  I'm wondering if another foal chewed out her hair, she would have let them too.  Angel is available for adoption so if you are interested please contact us.

Gem had a great time in the sun today.  Go figure...the other day she wanted nothing to do with it.  Horses can be so unpredictable.

I want to thank Cindy B for donating 9 gallons of exterior paint, once we get the siding up on the outside of the stalls, we will paint them.  PMR is starting to look quite respectable.  The date is set for Breakfast with the Babies and it will be June 19th.  If we don't have any babies by then I am contacting the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest pregnancies in history.

Have a great day.  Weather will be a cool 75 degrees.  Yahoo!

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

I went to the Corralitos Grange to put our deposit down to secure the date for "Breakfast With the Babies" and they've also agreed that we can have horses at the event.  Wouldn't make much sense to have no horses.  Both mares and foals will be there and a friend of ours who is also a trainer will be there with a couple of her horses.  We're really looking forward to this event and we will announce the final date and all the details later in the week.  Just remember that this event is not to be missed.  It will be one of our major fundraisers for the year. There may even be a celebrity or two also. We would love to have held it at the rescue itself but parking is a nightmare, and I really don't like intruding too much on my neighbors.  If you would like to come and see the new and improved PMR facilities call me, I would enjoy showing you around. 408 540 8568

I wanted to talk about Lauren last week, but I could not get her photos to resize and upload so a friend of mine spent time today working on them.

Lauren is a wonderful young girl who decided that she would rather receive donations for PMR than receive Birthday gifts.  At first Lauren had to cancel her Birthday party because she was sick and then lucky Lauren got to go to Tahoe for a trip.  But Lauren never forgot us or the horses and she arrived at PMR with a donation of over $200.00.... Lauren spent a long time with the horses and really enjoyed herself. Lauren dreams of horses and someday owning one.  We will find you that special horse someday Lauren.

Lauren you are one of the sweetest young girls we have ever met and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.  We hope you like pancakes and look forward to seeing you again.  Invite everyone you know to come, their will be lots of things to do, see and of course shopping!!!!

Thank you to everyone who went to Lauren's birthday party and we hope you had a great time.  We look forward to meeting all of you.

Still no foals but they have to come sooner or later right?

Check out Blue Horse Designs new soaps, they are wonderful and very inexpensive.

www.bluehorsedesign.net

Thanks to Bob W.  We got the wormers...we appreciate it very much!

Angel comes back today..Tomorrow will be her day to shine and hopefully find a home to call her own again.  She is gorgeous!

If you would like to help at the fundraiser we are having our next meeting at 1pm on Saturday.  There is much to do and not a lot of time.  We promise to keep you no more than 1 hour tops.  Cheryl and Betty will keep the meeting on track.  Thanks again to everyone who volunteers at PMR without you these horses could not have been helped.

Still didn't find time to get the computer fixed.  Anyone want to take it in for me?

More tomorrow

Happy St. Patrick's Day

So Tuesday was a busy day for us.  The sand and gravel arrived on time.  Once again our driveway looked like a construction zone.  I 'm sure the neighbors must shake their heads in disbelief.  Their once quiet neighborhood now taken over by the crazy lady at the top of the hill.  Actually, in all honesty, my neighbors put up with a lot, and they are still nice to us, which is a blessing.

We spotted the first flies of the season. Our pup Wyatt spent most of his day trying to chase them off the property but they just flew small circles and headed right back.  Urgh, the war is on.

Angel's mom Regina has been suffering with some health issues and decided that it would be best for Angel to return to us.  We may have a home lined up for her already, which would work out perfectly.  Angel is a beautiful Palomino mare who has had a lot of ground training, has been saddled and bridled, is current on vaccinations, wormer and veterinary care. We will have more information tomorrow.  If you are interested in adopting Angel please fill out our on line application and we can mail the rest of the application papers.  My heart goes out to Regina, she loves that mare, and was a great mom to her.  Jingles for a speedy recovery Regina and thank you for EVERYTHING that you did for her. We promise you she will go to a truly wonderful home.

Another special mention to Laurie D who's Dobie "Daisy" is not feeling too good.  Our thoughts go out to you and we wish you, Darcy and Daisy all the best.  She is a wonderful dog who could not have asked for more special owners.  We miss you all.

Off to Royal Oaks Feed today for even more stall mats and grain, Manny and his beautiful wife have been so generous to us.  Thanks again, Royal Oaks Feed.

Gem is being Gem,  unpredictable again today.  I swear, waiting for a mare to foal is like waiting for water boil, it just never seems like it is going to happen.

Ballet is enormous and her Prima Ballerina attitude is really amusing.  What horse does not like to get dirty?  She'll roll again and again in  her clean shavings, but heavens forbid she lay in the dirt.  No matter what she always makes us laugh, and she is so gentle.

Narico has finally realized at age 3 that she is actually not the lead mare around here, but we let her think it occasionally.  Whiskey, our in house alpha gelding is going to be getting his own space, he is so good under saddle, is gentle with all the kids he meets, loves being groomed,  but he does not play well with others.  Sorry Whiskey, time out!

Second meeting for "Breakfast with the Babies" is going to be Saturday at 1pm.  Betty has been working tirelessly on this.  Thanks again Betty.

Still haven't taken my computer in but I'll work on getting that done this week, I never seem to have time for everything.  If you would like to volunteer please call me at 408 540 8568 or email me at pmrhorses@pregnantmarerescue.com or my other email lhummer8@gmail.com

We look forward to meeting Vickie and Bob this weekend. It will be their first time  at the rescue and they have offered to help us out.  Hopefully their grandson will be able to come during Spring Break.  We need to get the new fence painted this weekend, if you would like to come and help let us know.  Paint parties always seem to end up being fun.  If you have supplies bring them too. The weatherman predicts glorious 70 degree weather.  I know Katy plans to bathe her horses this weekend.  Zoe is now officially 16.2 and weighs a ton (well at least close)

I'm trying to put all the rescue photos on a disc so Sandy can work on the new DVD. I've been busy rounding up old photos from everyone and then having them forwarded to Katy's computer. Thanks Sandy for your help with this.

More tomorrow

Enjoy your St. Paddies Day and have a Guinness for me.

Lynn

Just a quick update today.  I have so much to do.

More gravel and sand were delivered this morning, I am determined to get the drainage taken care of this year.  Now that Spring is here I'm taking advantage of the dry weather.

It's amazing how much better I feel with extra daylight.  Life is good!

Gem spent most of the day down.  Grunting and groaning, she's trying to get comfortable.  It's easy to mistake it for colicing sometimes.  She's fine, baby is fine, all is well with the world.  She took a quick walk around the pasture and then wanted in.  We even offered her her own private sunning spot in the mare and foal pasture and she was not a happy girl.  I thought she'd want to just bask in the sun, but no, not today.  We are watching her closely.  A little bit of milk but not much...

Thanks to Catherine K who dropped off 150lbs of Alfalfa Pellets.  Thank you so much!

Dwight and Kelly stopped by and informed me that Dwight had won 3rd place in a Golf Tournament.  His prize was a 500.00 donation to the charity of his choice and PMR was the recipient.  Not surprising he got third since he's a first rate football player.  Thank you!

A big thank you to Alecia from Saratoga who made a very generous donation to us. You don't know how much this will help us. We'll keep you updated on how the money was spent.  It will go a long way to helping our rescues.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

First thing Monday we'll be contacting Dr Phinn to geld Jayce.  Fingers crossed she can squeeze him in this week.  As soon as he's gelded and recouped he will continue with his training.  Carlos and Jayce make good students and their trainer is thrilled with the progress they are making.  Thank you Carlos for being such a responsible colt owner and covering his gelding expenses.  Ballet will receive her last month of pregnancy booster shots so baby will receive her immunities, Ballet will be wormed again to ensure that the foal has immunites to them also.  A big thanks to Bob, for donating 8 wormers.  It really really helps us help them.  They will arrive in the mail anyday now.

We've received some fabulous names in the "Name the baby contest".  Secretly I hope one of the kids wins....they check in with us all the time.  Afterall, kids are our future.  If they have a big heart now, who knows what their future holds!

I just wanted to make a quick note that we do not euth any of our rescues unless they are too sick to help or we cannot control their pain any longer.  We find sanctuary for them when needed.  Train or retrain if we can, and never  give up on them. They stay as long as needed to ensure a healthy, happy future. Sometimes they are with us a couple of years.  Euthenasia is the last resort for the terminal and pain riddled only.....Believe me, there are people out there who will take the aged and give them a great home.  The older mares and geldings are wonderful and have been around the block...if you are interested in giving an older horse a home, please let us know...we can help you find one.  More tomorrow...have a great day.

Spring Forward..It couldn't have come soon enough!

The weather was glorious Saturday.

It's official, the computer is dead, a crash cart couldn't even bring this one back...so now I need to pack it up, put a $1000.00 stamp on it and mail it back.  Thank goodness for warranties.  The daily blog may be intermittent for a while.  My apologies ahead of time.  Jill, my daughter, has a Mac,  and I can't do all the things I would like to on that one.

I was up early to muck in the sunshine.  The dogs and horses basked in the sun. Ballet, afraid to get dirty didn't lay down, but she stood in just the right spot to soak up the warmth.  Gem, as always, was first down to see how much mud she could accumulate before time out was called.  She seems to be laying down for longer periods which is probably to make herself more comfortable....the weather says it could be 70 degrees this week.  Who knows, maybe a foal?  I know for sure we will have a million flies.  Time to order traps, which in 70 degree weather smell wonderful. Katy said if we had a dollar for every fly that made PMR their home this summer we'd  never have to fundraise again.  Larkin Valley is full of horse ranches so they just do the rounds.

I want to thank our wonderful farrier Mike.  He has made Gem his special project.  Since she was born with a deformed leg, Mike has made it his personal crusade to make her  more comfortable to stand.  He does all this for us out of his love for Gem.  Thanks Mike.  Your generosity is amazing.

With the downpour we had yesterday, the ground was too wet to get the tractor back to the manure pile so Scott says next weekend. He will be out of town for a few days.  If anyone else is handy with a tractor let me know, I can put you to work in the blink of an eye.

The first "Breakfast with the Babies" meeting was a huge success.  Thanks Amy, Cheryl and Betty for helping me with this fundraiser.  Other volunteers who couldn't make it said "Just sign me up for a job".  Thank you all.  Without your help I couldn't do any of this myself.  The next meeting is Saturday 20th March at 1pm-2pm.  If you would like to help, please contact me and I can give you the address of the ranch.

Carlos and Rozlyn have been working with our trainer and are making a lot of progress.  Jayce is such a gentleman and is so gentle with his new owners.  Each lesson is a learning experience for all.

Enjoy the extra daylight hours..more tomorrow.

Lynn and all our wonderful volunteers at PMR.

Our computer finally crashed...so off to our neighbor tech guy to see if he can repair it.  I pray he can, all the photos of the past rescues are on it!

The weather was fabulous today, a typical Spring day.  Friday brings MORE rain.

Thursday, Gem was turned out and tried to roll as usual, but her ever growing belly stops her from going right over.  Ballet on the other hand does not like to get dirty.  She is such a Prima Donna.

Carlos and Rozlyn have decided they would like to keep Jayce here a little while longer and work with a fabulous trainer before they take him home. I'm thrilled he's staying longer.  He truly is the sweetest horse you could meet.  Don't tell any of the other horses but Hunter and Jayce were two of my favorites.

Narico has settled in nicely and is now best friends with Dually my quarter horse.  He is such a great babysitter.  Narico has nice ground manners, trailers well, is good for the farrier, bonds easily to her human and is looking for a new home.  She will be 3 this Spring.  She is not under saddle, but has been saddled and bridled without a fuss.  Her previous owner was able to lay over her back and she kept eating hay.  I think she will be easy to start.

Looking forward to dinner with friends Friday night and the big meeting Saturday.  If you need to get a hold of us you can either email Lhummer8@gmail.com or call 408 540 8568.  I am checking my email from a friends computer, although I don't have access to it 24/7

More tomorrow

Major technical difficulties with the rescue computer.  It's now dumped our Microsoft Office software, so now I can't even post pictures and re size.  If anyone reading this has some old office software sitting around that you don't want please, please let me know.  Make sure it's licensed though.  We don't want to break a law.  I can't believe all the tech problems I have had this week.  I have to type this from a friends computer. Sandy if you are out there, I will try to work on the photos asap.

I went to do Jayce's home check today and they have done a nice job preparing for him.  He will be about 5 minutes from Hunter.  Hopefully if one of them whinnies, the other will hear him.  I am so happy they have both found good homes.  Carlos and Rozlyn will be working closely with a trainer.

If all goes well, and we get some software we can be back up and running with the photos.

Scott will be back out this weekend to move the manure pile, paint the fencing, and hopefully come up with an idea for another shelter.  We can get one from Eq-Wine covers for 900.00..we will have to start fund raising again soon. If 90 people donated just $10.00 each we could do this in no time.  Thanks Eq-wine covers for the extremely generous deal.

A special thanks to Lisa Van D who has donated 2 bags of rice bran.  Katy will be dropping it off to us Friday.  A special welcome to Vickie who will be coming to the meeting Saturday.

Gem and Ballet have enjoyed some play time.  No sign of Gem foaling yet.  Ballet is not due until the end of April.

Betty is organizing everything for the "Breakfast with the Babies" meeting Saturday.  We hope you can join us.  Email me for directions to the ranch.  Lhummer8@gmail.com

Maybe Bill Gates will see this and send more software.

More tomorrow

Will it ever stop raining?  It is early early morning here and it is pouring down again.  Just as the ground was finally drying out.

Roll on Sunday March 14th.  Daylight savings time.  It's going to be wonderful to have extra long daylight.  I can't wait.  Winter has felt too long this year.  The grass in the neighbors pastures looks luscious.  Obviously no horses have set foot on their turf.  I dream of a day when we can turn our horses loose in huge green pastures.  Until then I will put on my mud boots again.  Hopefully I can put them away soon.

Jayson heads for his new home on Thursday, how bittersweet this is.  I go through the same thing every time we adopt one of our horses out.  I already have a list of items they will need printed out to make sure Jayson is off to a good start with them.  Carlos and Rozlyn are the nicest couple, and it seems all our horses agree when they arrive with apples for them all.

Today is going to be the usual mucking, feeding, ranch chores and lots of Admin work(which I deplore).

We have a new volunteer coming Saturday and we are still having our meeting for "Breakfast with the Babies".  Saturday, 1pm at the ranch.

I have a new email address in addition to the PMR email.  Lhummer8@gmail.com please make a note of it.  My Yahoo one is either dumping emails or throwing them into oblivion.  If you tried to contact me please try again.

Have a great day.

Lynn

Nariko is settling in nicely. She is very vocal. Greets me with great enthusiasm in the morning. Who am I kidding...she's looking for breakfast!

Note** my personal email has been suspended and I am trying to undo the problem...please email me at pmrhorses@pregnantmarerescue.com until things are fixed!!!

Have a great day~~Lynn

It's a gorgeous Sunday morning. Everyone is munching happily. Everyone but Gem. She has her fresh alfalfa and oat hay, fresh cool water and she's standing there looking at me. Her belly is huge. So we'll keep an eye on her.

I am experiencing trouble with my email....I think it may have something to do with the new website coming up. I will continue to trouble shoot:(

Nariko came back to us yesterday. You might remember she was one of the gorgeous mustang orphans from South Dakota. She is now a pretty black 3 year old filly. Blonde tail..quite stunning. Pics coming later today.

Jayson has found his forever home. A young sweet couple have fallen for his sweet brown eyes. He will get to live right at their home. I am doing the home check on Thursday. What's nice is he'll be living just a few miles away from me. I am very happy for Jayson!

Out to check on Gem always tons to do!~~L

Today the webmaster has decided that everything has to be underlined...what is up with that?  No matter what I do the darn thing will not remove the underline.  I hate this web thing...

TGIF.......The sun shone brightly Thursday and what a relief!  The ground is saturated beyond belief. (Hey, that rhymes)

So much to do in such a short time.  Rain forecast again for Friday.  It really surprises me how much more fun mucking is when it is not pouring down rain, cold and foggy.  Seems the sun really brings out the better side of people and horses.

Gem and Ballet enjoyed a short turnout...the ground is just too muddy to risk an injury to our pregnant mares.  All as I can say is FAT and HAPPY today.  I have a sneaking suspicion that Gem is holding off until the weather gains some Spring normalcy.

We are hoping Jayce will find a home...how could anyone say no to this boy.  Believe me he'll be the best horse who ever owned you, and he is a "rescue".  No papers, but who cares....sometimes these horses are the best horses.  One rescue horse turned out to be an Olympian!! (not our rescue horse lol)

Today I really want to thank Betty.  Betty volunteered her fund raising expertise a couple of months ago.  She comes up with the greatest ideas.  Betty surprised me last week with a full blown poster of Angel and the Jonas Brothers.  It was beautiful.  We're hoping Betty will do more and include every rescue we have had, include their story and their update.  Betty if you are reading this.....we appreciate you so much.  Posters would be available to adopters first and then the public.  Katy has already put in an order for one of Zoe aka Hope.  I am sure all the adopters would love to have one to frame.

I feel like the weeks are flying by, so much to do, so little time.  I miss the times with old friends and relish the times with new friends.  Friends I have made through the horses.  Have a great Friday...time to batten down the hatches again.....L

Meet Nariko...she's a gorgeous orphaned mustang filly from South Dakota. She was meant to come in the middle of an unbelievable winter in 2007. We started trying to get her here in Nov 07...the snow was so bad she arrived in Feb 08!  Now approaching her 3rd birthday, Nariko will be returning to the rescue and looking for a new home. She has beautiful ground manners, is good for the farrier, trailers well and we'll have more information  before she arrives .  Lots more pictures too!

Below is Jayson..lovely wondeful large pony Jayson. He has the potential to be a FABULOUS Hunter/Jumper.
Extremely athletic, brave, honest and very sweet.....Jayce will be 3 this Spring and is ready to be started under saddle...

The rain continues to keep us drenched like soggy sewer rats! If this continues we'll need straw bales or wattle to divert the water.  We are beyond saturated and it is becoming worrisome. We are all tucked in and hoping for small breaks and lots of sun  Hang in there..... We're getting a new wheel barrow and more hay! No rain today~~~LYNN

Rain, rain go away!!! At least for a few days.....

On a brighter note we reached our goal of raising $1,000 dollars so Gauge Point Calibration will match it.  Hooray!! That's $2000.00 raised.  We cannot thank them enough and the horses and I appreciate it tremendously.  First thing we need to get is a heavy duty wheelbarrow and repair the old one.  Then we are going to fill the hay shed to the brim with Alfalfa and Forage, get some foal supplies and grain.

The raffle tickets are selling really well for the "Name the Babies'". No babies yet, but with this weather it's a good thing.  Gem and Ballet are getting bigger.  I think they're secretly having an eating contest.  These girls can eat their way through a bale of alfalfa in a flash.

More great news, Jayce may have found a person to call his own.  We will keep you posted.  I am so excited for him.

Scott came  and finished off the fencing project and as soon as the weather dries up we can paint it, he even took down all the old wire and old cracked creep feeders.  Thanks so much Scott.  PMR is really starting to look good.

Thanks to Janet who is delivering 8 Ivermectin wormers this week.  Perfect timing.

Jingles for Regina, Angel's mom,  who's not feeling so good...we wish you a speedy recovery.  You have done so much for Angel.

Rain started at 7am this morning so it's going to be really fun mucking today.  The two broken wheelbarrows will make great yard art!  Any artists out there who would like to turn them into painted planters?

Til tomorrow....L

Monday, March 1st,  2010

Sunday morning we were up bright and early.  No rain forecast for the day so we had to hurry to get the new fencing in.  Without your help this would not have been possible.

In this photo you can see on the far side the fencing and barbed wire that separates the cows and donkeys from our property.

So the work began and of course our neighbors donkeys wanted to help too

Scott and Lee went to unload all the supplies.

Now to figure out the best plan of action.

The donkeys tried to help most of the day.

More workers showed up which was really helpful.
Before we knew it the fence was done.  Scott will return today to finish off rounding of the tops of the posts and remove the wire on the other fences.  We are hoping we can get a donation of white paint to really make it look great. Can you help? We also need foal creep feeders and if all goes to plan we will build a shelter for the mares and babies to get out of the Spring showers and Summer sun.

Not looking forward to mucking stalls today.  I will have to do it one bucket at a time which is back breaking work.  But it has to be done, rain or shine.  Rain starts again Tuesday and will continue through the week. Urgh!
More tomorrow!

Feb.28th...Sunday morning......Last Day in February...and so the day begins...I now have two wheelbarrows that I call barrows....just barrows, no wheel! Dave and I had to haul the poop out without the wheel. Boy that was fun. So, we need a new wheel barrow.....
Saturday brought huge amounts of rain. Running around, getting alfalfa and errands taken care of we were caught is very strange weather! I was standing in my girlfriends barn, and I could hear the rain POUNDING on the metal roof.......but looking outside the sun was shining and there was no rain falling! Weird...Around the other side of the barn was a huge black cloud, and THERE was the rain.......buckets of it.....

By the time we got home, Ballet was all tucked in, eating lunch. Gem was finished with hers, eying Ballet's bucket of rice bran. When she can reach and yanks the bucket and throws it to the ground...I try to remember to hang it far enough away....Off to muck.We are fixing the lower pasture today. Scott, Lee, Dave, Robert, James...the crew is simply fabulous. I have the VERY best friends and support. Katy and Cheryl are working today ..but without them, this work wouldn't be happening today...so a big Thanks!!!!!! And Betty swung by with more buckets...Betty will be pleased to know that envelopes with donations are beginning to come in!! This is great..Thanks Betty for all your hard work!Pics of our fence coming when its done! Enjoy the sunny day!~L

Late afternoon Friday update

It's 4pm and the rain is torrential.  No doubt there will be mud slides and trees down today.  Hoping we at least keep the power on.  No baby yet and Gem seems more settled today, and so we play the waiting game.  It is pretty much guaranteed that if you stay up all night like last night she will not foal.  Time to leave her alone and give her some quiet time.  More in the morning if we have power.

Lynn

Friday, February 25th, 2010

We are battening down the hatches once again. The forecast says we could receive up to 3 inches of rain.  I noticed Caltrans making the ditches deeper along Larkin Valley Rd.  Thanks guys! We may or may not float away.

Gem is very uncomfortable, she is up and down and groaning. Off her food then on it.  I have officially put myself on foal watch.  Thanks to Cheryl for keeping me company.  Thanks to Lee for delivering straw.  Thanks to the powers that be that made the hay delivery come today instead of tomorrow.  Thanks to Miss M and her daughter for mucking stalls and making a cozy place for Gem to try and get comfortable.

Will keep you all posted on Gem and Ballet.

Lynn

Thursday, February 24th, 2010

Wednesday was cool and breezy with showers.  I'm starting to feel like the weather man, but keeping up on the weather is really important to us.  I love the coastal climate but need to make sure we blanket when necessary.  The mares are using all their calories to help the foals and we don't want them wasting calories on trying to stay warm so we blanket when needed.  No rain in the forecast for today, but that could change....As a friend of ours says "Blankets on and blankets off" which is the story of our lives these days.  Thank goodness for our wonderful volunteers. If you would like to help we can find something you like to do...doesn't have to be blanketing, if you like admin work we always have that stuff to do.  Not my favorite thing in the world.

Jayce is still looking for a new home and he is the most wonderful little horse you could meet.  Although Jayce is not under saddle yet, I think he would make a perfect family horse.  He is the most sweet, trusting, well mannered guy you could meet and he never argues with you.  Jayce will be 3 this Spring.  If you can find room in your heart, and give him the care he deserves please contact us...you won't be sorry.

Ballet's wound is healing nicely and she is the perfect patient.  Our raffle to raise funds is going really well and it is not too late to enter.

The fencing in the lower pasture is still not completed.  We are fighting the weather daily, but come rain or shine this weekend it will be done.  We can't wait any longer.  Gem is due to foal in a couple of weeks, if not sooner, and we need that area for her and her foal. A huge thank you to Bert, Marty, Janet, Katy, Miss M, Scott, Mike and Barbara for your generous donations for fencing, we are almost there......if you would like to donate please do, we have miles of fencing that needs freshening up as funds allow.

A special thanks to Lilly (8), Maggie(5) and Austin(7) who all bought raffle tickets to name the babies....we hope you are winners in naming the babies.  Thanks to Katy and Cheryl for selling them for us.

Hay will be delivered Friday before the rain.  Saturday will probably be a slow day, more rain in the forecast.
Looks like we will be getting our new accounting software for Non-Profits after all.  Thanks Betty!

Til tomorrow and remember "It's all about the horses"  We can only save these beautiful creatures from slaughter and neglect with your help.

Wednesday, February 23th, 2010

Tuesday brought some very unwelcomed rain, cold and foggy, the horses stayed under their shelters. Even the horses are saying enough is enough.  Time for me to buy some real mud boots.  Wonder if they sell ones that don't get sucked off?

It was pretty quiet around the ranch.  Most of the volunteers were working their other jobs.

I still have a rotten cold so a good friend of mine stopped by with her daughter to help muck.  Ballet was so good when we changed her bandage.  Thankfully she is very cooperative so it goes quickly.

Hunter has settled in nicely at his new barn and Cici is in love.  I am sure Hunter knows he has hit the big time.  If only we could find just the right person for Jayce.  His time will come. Until then he hangs out with me and loves the attention.  I know he misses Hunter.

Ordering more alfalfa today.  Our pregnant mares certainly love their hay.  I would post pictures but they aren't turning out too well with all the rain.  Seems the rain makes all the pictures blurry.

Thanks go to Cheryl S. for making raffle tickets and selling them, we are coming up with some really great names, and some really really creative ones too. Thanks also for mucking stalls and feeding whenever needed.

Again, thanks to Betty J.  You are the most amazing fundraiser, volunteer we could ask for.  Your ideas are brilliant!!!

Til tomorrow

Lynn

Tuesday, February 22nd,2010

Monday arrived and brought some very welcomed sunshine. Sunny and warm, all the horses enjoyed a nice turn out and roll. Gem can't roll over any longer but she continues to try. She is probably only a couple of weeks away....cross your fingers and don't forget to get your name and gender chosen! Enter the raffle today!

Ballet is a very good patient as I change her little bandage and rewrap her hoof. She is healing nicely from small cut. We don’t want to take any chances, and so she is being treated like royalty. It fits actually, she is so darned elegant. She doesn't just lower her head to see what I'm up to, she gracefully arches her neck like a swan and delicately extends like a ballerina Maybe they teach them that on the track ....How to accept the Roses when you win....at any rate she’s pretty spectacular. Makes me think.... How sad that a glorious thoroughbred like this ends up left, unattended, abandon...thank God for Susan who helped get her to us,  and donors and readers like you who make it possible to provide dignified loving care.

On a very sentimental note....Hunter went to his new home in the very early hours on Sunday morning. The drizzly gray mist helped conceal my tears as they drove away into the foggy morning. He spent quite a few months here with me after his mom was adopted. From a stunning chestnut colt, he grew into a gangly teenager and became best friends with Jayson. The two were inseparable. He settled in, and learned his ground manners with me. I learned from him too. Hunter will always be such a big special boy. I am thrilled for his new home. He will be well loved, and that wraps comfort around the little ache I feel when I rise to go feed and he isn't there. I will miss his big head, huge eyes and patient little high pitched nicker. I love you Hunter. I know your going to be just fine. You deserve a wonderful life!

Saturday Evening Feb. 20th 2010

FIASCO........go head say it. Below is the definition of the word.
Main Entry: 1fi·as·co
Pronunciation: \fç-ˈas-(ˌ)kô also -ˈäs-\
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural fi·as·coes
Etymology: French, from Italian, from fare fiasco, literally, to make a bottle
Date: circa 1854

: a complete failure

Ah ha, there it is A COMPLETE FAILURE!!!! That describes Lynn changing Ballet's bandage. So there I was. I had all my gear in hand, scissors; check, duct tape; check, ointment; check, gauze; check, wrap, check.....golden retriever puppy stealing wrap; check, scissors dropping out of pocket and being stepped on;  check, wrap getting stuck on puppy fur; check,  well,...you get the idea. What was to be a quick bandage change turned into the day's fiasco. I am certain it's because I'm sick. Thank God Ballet was a perfect Angel. Well behaved and sweet, she stood looking down wondering (I'm sure)  about the circus taking place underneath her. Her big dark eyes blinked and waited. Eventually, I was able to clean her wound and apply her ointment and bandage her leg. She is supersweet. So, on we went.

I stood with her in her stall. She loves the time spent, the attention. She follows me as I move ever so slightly. I immediately think therapy...she's got that special softness...I am not sure with her past injury if she could ever carry a rider,  maybe a small child. What impresses me is her sensitvity. She defines elegance and grace, seeks the softness and quiet of a gentle touch.  The curve of her neck as she bends into my touch is delicate. She reveals a little more to me each day.  Ah, the gifts these horses give...unimaginable. I have grown very fond of her in a very short time.  It's the very best part of the rescue..... All the lovely horses I get to know. I had always thought of thoroughbreds as rather high strung. And now today I have learned something new. Well that and how to not change a bandage! I hope this will suffice as tomorrows blog. We have a busy day planned working on fencing. The little ones are coming soon and we want to be ready. More on Monday!~Lynn

Saturday 20th February 2010

Is it a colt?                       Or                              Is it a filly?

Dr Phinn came today and confirmed that Ballet is indeed pregnant and mom and baby are doing great so far.  It was so exciting to listen to Dr Phinn as she palpated her and chatted to Ballet's  foal. We expect Ballet's foal sometime in April.  A quick check of Gem and all is well.  It almost hurts to watch her foal kicking around inside her.  I feel for her.

" Name That Baby!"A $5.00 donation buys you a raffle ticket and a chance to name one of the babies.  Mail your donation with  a stamped self addressed envelope ( PMR PO BOX 962 Aptos, CA 95001)and we will put your chosen name in the box!  Buy one for each mare and double your chances.  Don't forget to name the baby!  This could get really fun.  ALL the entries go into one box. So, if your ticket is pulled and the gender of your name chosen matches the new foal, you win...if the gender doesn't match then we have to pull another ticket...we don't want to confuse people, but we don't want a boy named "Sue"!

So far we have the names Sasha and Buck.

In preparation for Dr Phinn, Katy mucked extra early. I have the worst cold (thanks again to Katy) but I came out for moral support sporting my bath robe. Katy found my old red one a few weeks ago and quickly threw it away.  Hope she doesn't get a hold of my newest fashion statement.

In this photo you can see our #1 volunteer, Spencer.  Spencer is 4 years old and told us that he does not plan on ever, ever going to school.  When we explained to him that in order to be a tractor driver or builder you had to go to school he seemed OK with it.  Phew!!  He is also the best mucker ever and proceeded to tell us how to do it.

Betty is coming today to help with mucking.  Thanks Betty, I hope to feel like my old self soon.

HUGE NEWSFLASH!!

Our dear sweet Hunter has found his new forever person.  Cici came and spent a lot of time with him yesterday and called today to say that she had decided that Hunter was the one.  We wish you a long and happy partnership together.  Her application was outstanding and after spending a long time with her yesterday and reference checks she was approved to adopt.  We are just thrilled.  Katy almost cried when she found out.  Tears of happiness and sadness.  She has known Hunter a long time.  Yet she knows this is what it is all about.  Hunter will stay local, only about 20 minutes from us, and we can visit anytime.  Cici we are thrilled for you.  We'll take pics to share when she picks him up.

The barometer is stuck at $928.00 but I wasn't able to go to the post office today, so we will check tomorrow.

We had a tree company out and I think we may have found the deal of a lifetime.  We are planning on removing some large eucalyptus soon!!!! Which will give us much needed useable land. Thank you to Community Tree Service.

Thanks to Cheryl for all your help today and your donation toward Ballet.  We sincerely appreciate you, and thank you for picking up 150lbs of rice bran for us.  Not to mention all the other running around you do.

Hey, is anyone into scrapbooking?  We would love some help starting baby books for the moms and foals...I think our adopters would love to be able to get a copy of their moms or babies history..."Growing up Baby" we also have the use of a Cricut machine.  Apparantly amazing little machines..no time to scrapbook but we have the supplies.

More tomorrow......and remember "It's all about the horses"

Well the rain has arrived, just as the weather man said it would, but not before more gravel and work was finished. My hubby Dave brings truckloads of shavings home. It's a huge savings for us.

I have acquired a nice throbbing sore throat. My thanks go out to Cheryl for showing up at 8am and feeding for me. I woke in a state of panic thinking my guys had missed a meal! Cheryl smiled and said "No problem, you're covered". Thank God for my help. I couldn't do it alone! Hunter had another interview today. I think it went quite well. The lovely potential adopter didn't want to leave. She spent about 3 hours with him. I am very pleased to say he was a very good boy. We should know in the next few days if Hunter indeed has found his forever home.

I wanted to share a couple of pics of Gem.You can see below Mike and Ty getting her all trimmed. Her bad led was braced by Ty's foot so that she could bear the weight while lifting her "good" front leg. After the trim Mike put on a pair of front shoes, the left just a tad longer. This seems to help support her efforts to put weight on the bad leg. She is walking and moving much better. Mike and Ty have been out 3 more times to check on her.We are all thrilled and amazed how much this has helped. Gem is getting very close to foaling...very exciting stuff. I also want to mention that Mike did all this work ...complimentary..thanks Mike & Ty, you are so appreciated!

The vet comes out to check on Ballet tomorrow. Thanks to Katy for offering to pay for the visit. I was able to contact the barn where she was bred. Found out she is due beginning of May. She also has had all her vaccinations which is a relief to discover.  I will be able to register the foal once on the ground. She  is quite a bit bigger than this photo below. : )

There continues to be lots of activity out here. Katy is a powerhouse, collecting donations, rewriting some PMR documentation and managing improvement projects.Because of her tireless efforts we have nice foaling stalls, a hay shed erected, a hitching post and a new fence on the way. A huge thank you goes out to Katy!

What a beautiful job Betty has done creating her latest "10- friends" fundraising campaign. I have already received one envelope of donations. This is such a tremendous help.

We cannot do this work without each and every one of you! Cheryl and her boys have been out mucking stalls,Jillian was cleaning water troughs, Miss M helped with Hunter's interview while Katy runs circles round all of us. Betty is rounding up scanners, ink, office supplies and more. Sandy has consented to create an updated video presentation of our rescues from 2009.Mimi, Cheryl's mom has volunteered to do our books. Our equines appreciate all our work. I thank every one every day for the support.

There is much to look forward to in the next coming months. Babies on he ground and events to share all we've accomplished thru the shut down.  So Mark your calendars, our grand re-opening is scheduled for May 15th!
Have a great Friday & remember.."It's all about the horses!"
